Despite its large metropolitan population and rich heritage, Orange County is often a footnote in Southern California travel books. Our panel of writers decided to change all that with the book A People’s Guide to Orange County, giving the region its proper recognition. It even includes a mention of the Anaheim Packing District.
Released in 2022, the book has been critically acclaimed for its real and unvarnished telling of the county’s history while providing a compendium of fascinating places to visit.
Elaine Lewinnek is professor of American Studies at California State University, Fullerton, and author of The Working Man’s Reward: Chicago’s Early Suburbs and the Roots of American Sprawl.
Gustavo Arellano is a columnist for the Los Angeles Times, former editor of OC Weekly, and author of the books Orange County: A Personal History, Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America, and ¡Ask A Mexican!
They will have plenty to share about their writing past, present, and future.
